UNRISD - United Nations Research Institute for Social Development
The United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) is an autonomous institute within the United Nations system conducting multidisciplinary research and policy analysis on the social dimensions of contemporary development issues.
Our work is to ensure that social equity, inclusion and justice are fundamental pieces of development thought, policy and practice. To this end:
- we focus on social content, often neglected, and the repercussions of development processes on that content, as well as on the role of social institutions, relationships and actors in defining development policies and paths;
- We incorporate researchers, policy makers and civil society actors from all over the world into our work to generate and share knowledge, in order to contribute to the shaping of policies within and outside the United Nations system ;
- we mobilize and strengthen the research capacity of people and institutions in developing countries through collaborative analysis; Y
- we provide a space for the exchange of ideas, in which marginalized viewpoints are brought to prominence and prevailing development currents are often questioned and alternative policies offered.
